"No, You Are Meant For Another"

Flick Rahke

Flick Rahke has been a devotee of Adi Da since 1975.

Flick Rahke At the end of 1974, just before I came to Adi Da as a devotee in 1975, I was living in New York City, where I had been living for a few years. I had been a disciple of the Indian guru Sri Chinmoy for a couple of years, but was transitioning away from him, and kind of lost and searching, and wanting to leave the life in New York.

I was very impressed by everything I was hearing about "Bubba" Swami Muktananda. He was on his second tour of the United States right then, and I went to see him for the first time at his ashram on the upper west side of Manhattan.

Soon I was sitting in his darshan hall and feeling an intense blissful presence of "shakti" or "spirit", which actually seemed to be emanating more from the large picture of Nityananda than from the body of Muktananda. I was very attracted to this shakti presence and energy, and wanted more of it.

Swami MuktanandaSo when Swami Muktananda asked for questions from the audience, I stood up, bowed, and asked him if he was to be my Guru.

Swami Muktananda tilted his head and looked at me with a little smile as he said: "No, you are meant for another."

I was actually somewhat shocked and disappointed by his reply. I felt lost.

Adi DaBut a very short while later, I heard a recording of the talk, "Garbage and the Goddess", on a Sunday morning radio show in New York. That was the first time I heard the voice and laughter of Adi Da. I had a bad flu at the time. . . Adi Da's voice and laughter rose me up out of my sickbed, dancing around the room laughing! I had a miraculous, instantaneous curing of my flu. I was full of the "shakti" force that I had loved when I had been with Muktananda.

In a couple of days, I saw "A Difficult Man" (a movie introducing the public to Adi Da) in a large church in New York. Seeing Beloved Adi Da in "A Difficult Man" made me weep with profound joy.

In that moment, I knew who Swami Muktananda was referring to when he said that I was "meant for another."

Within two months, I was taking the pre-student course at The Mountain Of Attention Sanctuary in Northern California, and receiving Beloved Adi Da's Darshan literally every Sunday.
