responsibility for the self-contraction) develop in
His Company.
Born
In The Bright
This video opens with Adi Da landing by seaplane on
Adi Da Samrajashram (the Fijian island of Naitauba)
for the first time, on October 27, 1983. Adi Da then
speaks about the significance of His unique incarnation
as the Divine Avatar "The Bright" and its relationship
to the context of His birth circumstance and the deeper
personality vehicles associated with His Incarnation.
The video goes on to document Adi Da's childhood and
young adulthood. Adi Da then continues to speak (in
an excerpt from a 1988 talk in Huge Helper at The Mountain
Of Attention) about the deeper personality vehicles
associated with His Incarnation. The video ends (at
22:47) with Adi Da giving Darshan.

The
Dreaded Gom-Boo
An audio talk from 1982 accompanied by images of Adi
Da. This talk considers that all religion seeks to
cure us of an unreal disease, which Adi Da humorously
calls the "Dreaded Gom-Boo". The "good news" of Adi
Da's Way of Adidam is that, in present Communion with
the Divine (made available through Adi Da's Spiritual
Transmission), we need not seek to be cured, but must
only feel, observe, understand, and renounce the very
activity of seeking itself, and thus be restored to
our native Happiness and Freedom.
Self-Contraction
Adi Da speaks about our failure to notice the Divine
Reality and why this is so: self contraction of the
body-mind as "Narcissus", the separate self.
The
Guru Is Sufficient
Adi Da speaks about the relationship with the Guru
in Satsang, or the Company of the Awakened One, as
the Way of Truth, and Reality Itself. The occasion
was a Prasad Day in May, 1973, in the backyard of
a devotee's residence in Los Angeles.
Self-Understanding
Devotee Frank Marrero shares a leela of his time in
Adi Da's Company. Many years later, he has come to
see that Adi Da was teaching him about self-understanding
and samadarshan: "The vision of sameness -
a vision that penetrates beyond the apparent differences
between beings to their transcendental nature."
Recognize
This Sign!
Adi Da Samraj describes how the Guru-devotee relationship
is based on the Realization of the Realizer. Contemplation
of His Bodily Sign is the means by which all His Gifts
are received and by which the devotee duplicates the
Realization of the Realizer.

(diptychs, triptychs, and polyptychs) from the single
frame images.

The
Living Relationship
Adi Da admonishes devotees to understand that spiritual
practice cannot be done merely by reading books and
presuming an imaginary relationship with the Guru or
the Divine. But Adi Da points out that real spiritual
life is practice based on direct Spiritual Transmission.
It requires a direct relationship with the Guru. Historically
very few people have been willing to do what it takes,
and have opted instead for an imaginary relationship.
Beginners'
Practice
Adi Da speaks about the beginning of spiritual practice
in the Guru's company. He describes the beginners' tendency
to equate the practice with "meditating" on the Guru
and techniques that focus attention on Him. But this
view is a beginner's error. The practitioner must also
engage the full range of functional disciplines as part
of the relationship to the Guru.
Go
Beyond Rigidity
During a retreat for adolescent devotees on Adi Da Samrajashram,
Adi Da Samraj responds to a young devotee's concern
about her limited response to Him that gets expressed
as "formality" and rigidity.
Exhibitions
of Adi Da's Image-Art
Two important art exhibitions in which Adi Da was invited
to participate were the Venice Biennale (2007) and the
Cenacolo di Ognissanti in Florence (2008), where His
Art was exhibited in the same room as the famous large
fresco by Domenico Ghirlandaio of "The Last Supper".
Narrated by Stuart Gibson.
The
Art of Adi Da Samraj

by Jesus of Nazareth, but also partly by a statue of
Shiva as Nataraja). Set to the tune of the American
Shaker song, "Simple Gifts".
Sixth
and Seventh Stage Realization

Samadhi at Swami Muktananda's ashram in India in 1968
and how it differed from His Seventh Stage Realization
in the Vedanta Temple in 1970.
You
are More Than Just the Body and Mind
Excerpt from the August 30, 2004 talk, "Glasses of Consciousness".
Adi Da talks about how human beings presume that they
are just a body and a mind, and this creates the mistaken
sense of separation from others and the Divine.
Orphism
and Aletheon
An excerpt from a longer interview with Ed Reither interviewing
Frank Marrero (author of The View from Delphi)
on the history of theater and its origins in Eleutherios,
Orpheus, the Greek mysteries, and The Upanishads. This
leads to deeper understanding of the connection to Adi
Da Samraj's Literature, Theater, and Image Art.

and discusses the topics of Eleutherios, Orpheus, Greek
mysteries, The Upanishads and the connection to the
Greeks. The discussion revolves around the transition
from mythology, rhapsodies and prosaic thought and communication
and its relationship to Truth (Aletheon) and the connection
to Adi Da Samraj's Literature, Theater and Image Art.

Nadikanta while she speaks about the Ashtavakra Gita,
a text within the sixth stage tradition of Advaita Vedanta.
Adi Da (at 2:30) clarifies the distinctions between
the first six stages of life and the seventh stage Realization.
He focuses on the distinction between the most advanced
Realization of the sixth stage of life, sixth stage
Sahaja Nirvikalpa Samadhi, and the seventh stage Realization.
Devotional
Recognition of the Divine
A slide show of photos of Adi Da. The soundtrack is
"Devotion Increases The Recognition Of Me", an original
composition from a devotee.
The
Quest for The Historical Self
In this discourse, Adi Da proposes that all human lifetimes
are a quest for the historical self. He describes
how this search is based on the activity of self-contraction
the erroneous presumption of an actual, defined, knowable
self.
Ruled
By Mind
Adi Da Samraj describes how people's limited awareness
of reality is just the "tip of the iceberg"; the intention
required to confront the limitations of mind; and the
illumination of ordinary mediocrity.
Growing
Up in the Adidam Community
Devotee Rachel Kuhn, who grew up in Adi Da's community,
gives her testimony about her relationship to Him.

You Do If You Love Me?", sung by Adi Da's daughter,
Naamleela Free Jones (from her album, Eyes In Other

approaches fail to fully realize the Divine. He then
summarizes, in a simple way, the practice He offers:
the Reality-Way of Adidam.
Sacred
Sighting
A simple, potent, silent occasion in which Adi Da sits
with His devotees and communicates His Divine State.

After
Death, Mind Makes You
Adi Da speaks of the condition after death in which
mind determines one's circumstance, without the limitations
of the body, brain and unconsciousness. He recommends
that devotees direct their attention to sadhana so that
the purification process gives one wisdom that frees
one from karmic limitations.
Fear
of Life
Adi Da speaks about the fear of death being a characteristic
of life and identification with the body-mind. Adi Da
relates this to the fundamental condition of ignorance
and the nature of reality. He draws His listeners into
considering that the ego has a more fundamental context
than even death, as the most primal action of the human
condition.
Escape
From the Fear
Adi Da on the fear and self-contraction that underlies
every moment of egoic life.
Nirmalya
Dey
Master dhrupad singer and teacher Nirmalya Dey will
be visiting Lake County, California, October 18-20,
2012. He will give a concert at The Mountain Of Attention
(in Land Bridge Pavilion) on Friday, October 19 at 8pm.
He will give a workshop on "Dhrupad" practices on Saturday,
October 20, from 9am - 1pm at the home of devotee Gina
Macioce. Nirmalya will also have limited spots available
for private lessons.
Death,
Fear, and Realization
Adi Da Samraj takes a devotee through a consideration
about death. He points out that ultimately all fear
is a form of the fear of death, a condition which is
inherently associated with identification with the body-mind.
He then speaks of the transcendence of the body-mind
and the fear-free State in which He abides and Which
He offers to all.
Life
with the Spiritual Master Adi Da
Devotee Frank Marrero speaks about his experiences in
which Adi Da takes him to a deeper level of understanding
about what Frank was doing to prevent the Master's State
of Love-Bliss in his sadhana.
October

Ego
as Process
Adi Da describes the ego as a process or action, and
our suffering as the result of that action ("pinching
oneself"). Therefore, merely analyzing the "I" thought
(for example) is not sufficient for self-transcendence.
Transcendence of the act that is ego is a matter of
counter-egoic behavior.
Discipline:
The Mechanism of Self-Transcendence
Adi Da compassionately explains the function of discipline
in a variety of ways. Disciplines in the Way of Adidam
are intended to be enacted in the context of recognition
of and response to the Divine. God cannot be Realized
without self being transcended. Disciplines are for
the purpose of self-transcendence or the transcendence
of the limit that is the self-contraction.
Lay
It At My Feet
Adi Da explains the process of purification and sadhana,
and what He expects of His devotees. He describes how
the disciplines expose (by offending) one's egoity and
childishness, and are purposed "to test you to the point
of consciousness and responsibility."

Italy. And the word goes out!
The
Spiritual Master as God
Adi Da Samraj talking about the misunderstandings people
can have about the ecstatic speech of the Spiritual
Master.
Questions
are the Problem!
In response to a devotee's question, Adi Da serves her
(and all) by pointing out that to ask a question in
the first place is to already be in the position of
dilemma and thus separation from the Divine Reality
Itself.
The
Return to the Guru
Adi Da Samraj speaks about the return to the Guru through
sacrifice and how one's state of feeling (ie - feeling
blissful) is not the sign to look for in sadhana. He
also speaks about the responsibility for the bodily
and mind processes that are required in sadhana.
Not-Two

Real
Questions?
Matt Spence recounts lessons he learned about the
adolescent game of raising academic questions, while
gathering with Adi Da during the "Indoor Yajna" period
in 1987 on Adi Da Samrajashram. This is followed (at
10:15) by video clips of Adi Da's Humor and Wisdom
on the transcending of the conceptual mind and its
endless talking, thinking, and questioning.
Commitment
to God-Realization
Adi Da Samraj speaks about the obligation inherent
in the process of God-Realization. One naturally dedicates
one's entire life to God-Realization, in response
to the Realizer's gift of the Way of God-Realization.
"If that Revelation [of God] is made clear in this
moment, then make a solemn, eternal vow of absolute
commitment to God-Realization, and commit yourself
to do whatever is necessary for the sake of God-Realization.
Devote this life to it, devote whatever time and space
appear entirely to God-Realization."

Notes
on the Adidam Mission
In 2004, Adi Da Samraj talks to devotee Peter Harvey-Wright
about using the Devotional Prayer of Changes to serve
the Adidam Mission. He distinguishes conventional
"neurotic prayer"from the Prayer of Changes, which
requires not just visualization but a change in action.
As part of that change in action, He mentions the
"barefoot Mission". He also stresses the importance
of an authentic culture of Adidam as essential for
attracting new devotees.

the impossibility of ever truly knowing the Divine Itself.

He asks them to consider which one they are choosing

Adi Da explains how fear is inherent in identification
with the body and how we must transcend it.
Devotion

Discipline
is an Expression of Radiance
Adi Da speaks about how the disciplines in the Way
of Adidam for observing and transcending the egoic
patterning of the body-mind should be based not on
idealism but on self-understanding and the impulse

disposition of Love-Bliss in His Company, not the
self-contraction.

a Mediocre Life

about going beyond a mediocre life. Rather than merely

true Spiritual practice, in which the body-mind and
its mediocre destiny are transcended in the Divine.

Truth
is Prior to the Body-Mind
In this talk excerpt, Adi Da addresses the fact that
Truth or God-Realization is not dependent on, nor
does it have anything to do with, the functions and
activities of the body-mind. It cannot be achieved
through sex, science, or even religion. This excerpt
is from the DVD, Beyond Sex, Science and "self", also
available as a CD.
Money,
Food and Sex
In an excerpt from His historic talk from 1972, "Money,
Food, and Sex" (now published in My "Bright" Word),
Adi Da addresses the dilemma those taking up "spiritual
life" encounter when bringing discipline to the areas
of money, food, and sex.
"My
Work is Profoundly Urgent"
In this passionate talk, Adi Da speaks to the crisis
mankind is in and the urgency for true spiritual practice
and the disposition that undermines mankind's assumption
of separation.
"While
You Live, You Make Mind. When You Die, Mind Makes
You."
Adi Da describes what actually happens during and
after the death process. While we survive death, that
fact is of no consolation. At death, there is the
falling off of the physical body, but the mind, psyche,
and personality created and reinforced during one's
life (and previous lifetimes) continue. Without the
anchor of the body, we drift aimlessly into the disturbances
of mind and psyche that remain. Therefore, what occurs
after death is directly associated with what one does
in life.
The
Commercialization of Religion
In this podcast, which is drawn from two talks and
a recitation from Adi Da's Teaching, Avatar Adi Da
brings His unique clarity and offers commentary on
the commercialization of religion. He describes how
the consumer mentality has infiltrated the area of
religion. We hear from the media and the popular psyche
that you can buy religion and become "spiritual" without
real change and Adi Da points out how this presumption
is false. Adi Da contasts consumer religion with true
religion.
All
Religious History is One Great Tradition
In this discourse Adi Da calls us to understand the
doctrines and spiritual attainments of humankind not
as separate traditions or paths but as a whole: a
single "Great Tradition". He also urges humankind
to transcend merely belief-based religious myths,
dogma, and "religious provincialism" which only support
egoic separation and conflict.
The
Romanticism of Science
This podcast is drawn from two talks in which Adi
Da talks about science and scientific materialism.
He describes what science can serve and what the limits
are in its endeavor to discover the truth about Reality.
Transcending
the Mood of Doubt
In this excerpt (from a talk Adi Da gave in Holland
in 1986), Adi Da describes how doubt is not ultimately
a sign that we have been "betrayed" in some way. The
radical solution to doubt is to identify with the
Divine Itself, beyond the temporary cycles of the
body and mind and beyond the sense of being a separate
self.
The
Only Way Beyond Fear
Fear is an inherent characteristic of identification
with the mortal body. Adi Da explains that such fear
cannot be escaped, but that identification with the
body can be understood and utterly transcended in
the Divine Self-Condition.
What
Is Adidam?
This podcast contains excerpts from two talks, in
which Adi Da clarifies that the Way of Adidam is based
solely on the inherent heart-response to His Transcendental
Spiritual State. That heart-response leads to the
self-understanding and willingness to take up the
real ego-transcending practice.
"God"
Is Not The Cause
In this excerpt (from an Avataric Discourse from 2005),
a devotee asks Adi Da a question about the nature
of the ego and what is causing the sense of self-separation.
In response, Adi Da describes how the Divine is the
substance of all that arises, not the "cause" of anything.
Our own activity (of separating from the Divine) causes
the assumption of separation.

In this talk from 1978, Adi Da notes that cultism
is rooted in the childish need to believe and to depend
on a person, group, myth, or symbol without assuming
responsibility for oneself. He then points out that
the tendency to create a cult (of whatever kind) is
present in everyone, every level of human society
and culture. Adi Da criticizes the tendency toward
cultism in the world at large and within His community
of devotees.
Death
and the Purpose of Existence
Adi Da describes how the habits of attention, while
alive, determine what happens in and after death.
He dispels the myth, "When you die, you go to heaven."
He gives a clear picture of how the death process
works, and why spiritual life is absolutely necessary
in serving that process. Carolyn Lee relates a wonderful
story from 1983. While in Adi Da's physical Company
in Fiji (five hours from any hospital), a devotee
has a near-fatal accident.
Beyond
Death, Sorrow, and Loss
Adi Da Samraj responds to a question from a devotee
who had lost a grandchild and was asking for some
understanding that might ease his sorrow. Adi Da describes
how there is no answer to the pain of loss, except
for Divine Realization.
The
Need for The Spiritual Master
Adi Da speaks of the indispensable need for a true
and fully accomplished Spiritual Realizer if anyone
hopes to discover the ultimate nature of Reality and
Truth. He explains the true way of recognizing Him,
the Spiritual Master, and how it is that felt recognition
that ultimately becomes the Way of Perfect Liberation.
The
"Bright"
Adi Da reads His own description of the unique State
of Spiritual Freedom He has enjoyed since His birth.
There
Is No Separate Self
In this discourse, Adi Da addresses the fact that
the assumption of a separate self or being, is not
really the case. It is in fact an illusion and a "lie"
that rules our entire life.

"Are There any Questions?",
to our section, FAQs about Adi
Da and Adidam. As one begins to explore matters of Spiritual
Realization, questions are useful . . . up to a point. But
it is always also good to know what that point is, and when
what is needed next is a Revelation, rather than an "answer"
to another "question".
