Ivanka Trump Unknowingly Paraphrases Adi Da Samraj
— On October 16, 2018, President Trump's daughter,
Ivanka Trump, tweeted a motivational quote she attributed
to Socrates (the Greek philosopher), that begins
with the words, "the secret of change". Twitter
had a field day with that, because the quote actually
came from a fictional character named Socrates,
in a book by Dan Millman. In this article, we dig
deeper, and make the case that the quote in Millman's
book was actually a paraphrase of Adi Da Samraj's
well-known essay, "The Secret of How To Change".
Our case is based on textual analysis, background
analysis (Millman was a formal student of Adi Da
for years), Millman's own overt acknowledgement
of Adi Da in the credits of his book, and his overt
inclusion of an excerpt from "The Secret of How
To Change" in one of his later books.
