3. Receiving Crystal Clear Guidance While House Hunting
| This is part II, chapter 3 of Chris Tong's story, Finding the Divine in Person and Waking Up From the Dream. This story is current and ongoing. I may be adding more to it as the story develops.

In mid-2026, Mary and I suddenly found ourselves needing to sell our house, and purchase a new one. We were living in Virginia, and were wanting to find another house in Virginia. But the housing market was very tight, and there were extremely few houses for sale that met all of our needs.
This was a perfect opportunity for engaging the Devotional Prayer of Changes (DPOC)! The primary part of the DPOC here was to manifest a house with the desired characteristics (enough room for our needs, close to nature, etc.), and none of the undesirable characteristics (unreasonable neighbors, noisy nearby gun ranges, nearby power plants, etc.)
There was also a secondary part to the Prayer. We wanted "crystal clear guidance" as we considered various house alternatives. Having also engaged the Prayer when we were looking for our current house, we felt we had been guided to it for higher purposes than our own personal preferences alone. And that had been borne out in the five years we had lived there. So we wanted the choice of our new house to be similarly guided, to ensure that our living there could serve the highest possible purposes for our lives. What this meant, practically speaking, was that, as we considered each particular house, we ourselves might very well have all kinds of strong feelings, both positive and negative, about the qualities of the house and the location; but we then wanted Higher Guidance to either confirm or disconfirm those feelings in an unmistakably obvious way — "crystal clear guidance", as the words in my Prayer put it — so that we didn’t end up making a purely egoic choice, or making a huge mistake because of unforeseen consequences that would follow from choosing this particular house, that we couldn't see, but Higher Powers could.
We would consider and rule out many possible houses ourselves, without needing to actually visit the house. So we actually only ended up visiting the small number of houses we were really seriously interested in. And — as it would turn out — each time we expressed our seriousness in the form of a physical visit to a house, we received "crystal clear guidance" about that house, in amazing ways that I will now describe.
So, one day, we found a house listed online that seemed perfect. Out in the countryside of Virginia, it was nestled on a hillside, and surrounded by woods. The house was beautiful and appealing to us in many ways. And it had been on the market for seven and a half months, so we didn't feel any sense of urgency or competition with other buyers. We had looked at the house listing many times over the months, and finally decided we liked it enough to actually visit it.

So we scheduled an appointment with our realtor to see the house. We were all ready to make an offer on the house immediately if we liked what we saw after an actual visit. So we drove out to the house. As we were getting closer, we both expressed how beautiful the countryside felt. When we were about five minutes away from the house, my cell phone rang. It was our realtor. “We have to call off the showing!”, she said. “I’m so sorry about this. This never happens! But just now, an offer was placed on the house, and the house was taken off the market, so we can no longer visit it.”
We pulled over to the side of the road, a few thousand feet from the house. Mary and I looked at each other. We were a little in shock at this sudden, unexpected turn of events. A house that had been on the market for seven and a half months had just been sold five minutes before we reached it! It was an extraordinary synchronicity. And it was equally clear to us that this was exactly the “crystal clear guidance" we had prayed for. This house was being forcefully removed from our consideration in the most direct way: it was sold to someone else, right before we got there!
At the time, we had no idea why we were being steered away from this house. And in some sense, it didn’t matter to us what the reason was, because the guidance was so clear, and we trusted it completely. However, in the following days, we would discover that a neighboring property was running a major business involving many trucks and other vehicles. Had we been living there, we would have experienced this as nonstop noise. This had not been visible or evident from the online listings and photos. And it was definitely not something we wanted. So upon learning this, we were very grateful for the "guidance" we had received!
A week later, we happened to be driving in the area of another house we had been considering for months, which had been on the market for eight months. It too had many features we liked, and so kept it on our very short list of serious possibilities. Since we were in the neighborhood, we decided to finally take a look at it in person.
The house was set back from the main road, accessed via a lane, so we couldn't actually see the house from where we were parked on the main road. That was one of the features we liked about the house! So we just sat there for a while, silently soaking in the "vibe" of the area. After a while, we started sharing our thoughts. It turned out that neither of us had liked the "vibe" — it was completely a feeling matter, but the feeling was very clear, and we both had the same feeling. So even though we were just a few thousand feet from the house, neither of us had any further interest in actually visiting the house itself.
And the universe doubled down on that communication! I took a moment to check my email before we drove home. There was a message saying that the house had just been sold — at the exact time we were sitting out there, a few thousand feet away, getting that negative vibe! It had been on the market for eight months, and it sold the very moment we actually got near it!
That "crystal clear guidance" again. . . through another amazing synchronicity.
Two days later, we found another house. It had so many of the features we were looking for that both Mary and I thought: "This might be the one!" At the level of less important details, we noted that the only way into the house was up a flight of stairs (in both the front and the back), and that would probably would make moving all our stuff into the house more difficult. But it was not an insurmountable problem. It would take more effort, but we knew we could manage it.

So we arranged a showing of the house with our realtor and then drove on out. It took us over an hour of driving before we reached the street with the house we wanted to look at. As we drove slowly down the street, we loved the look and feel of the houses, and the forest that was everywhere (including between the houses). We arrived long before the showing time, so our realtor wasn't there.
We reached the end of the street. The house we wanted to see was the very last one on the street. When we reached the mailbox with the correct number on it, we couldn't see the house. What we did see was a driveway. The driveway was gravel and it was incredibly steep! We gunned our car engine and headed up the driveway. At least that was the intention. But we found our wheels spinning, unable to gain any traction on the slippery gravel and the steep incline. So we stopped the car and got out to take a closer look.
Our car wheels had dug deep holes in the very bottom of the steep driveway. I looked up, and saw the driveway climbing and climbing, maybe a thousand feet in length, and turning to the right about halfway up. You could barely see the top of the house peeking above the driveway at the top of the hill.
None of this had appeared in the online photos of the house and property!
I stood there at the bottom of the hill looking up. I said to myself: "I'll be damned if, after driving an hour to get here, we don't actually get to see the house!" So, determined, I started climbing up the driveway.
But it was like climbing up the side of a mountain. And the gravel made it incredibly slippery. By the time I was halfway up, my calf muscles and the muscles in the back of my legs were aching. They were having to bend in ways they were not used to, to ascend the steep incline while not slipping on the gravel.
I looked up again for a moment at the remainder of the driveway yet above me, sighed, and turned back down. I had to walk down very slowly. It took all my concentration and sense of balance to not slip and fall on my face. But I made it to the bottom without falling.
The angle of the driveway was 40 degrees![1]

It was clear there was no way our little sedan (a Toyota Corolla) could possibly manage that ascent. And forget about getting a large moving truck up that driveway! In retrospect, it was very humorous that, when looking at the online photos of the house, we had thought the biggest challenge would be moving stuff up the stairs into the house. In fact, the biggest challenge by far would be to get the stuff from the street up that impossible driveway to the foot of those stairs!
As I stood at the foot of the driveway, I guessed that whoever lived there must use a 4WD (4 Wheel Drive) vehicle to manage the driveway. When I later researched that possibility, this is what I found:
A 40-degree incline is extremely steep — roughly an 84% grade — and sits right at or exceeds the theoretical limit for most wheeled vehicles. While a 4WD vehicle with low-range gearing, good tires, and a capable driver might climb a 1000-foot gravel driveway at this angle, it is highly risky, would likely cause significant erosion, and would require constant maintenance.
A 40-degree slope on loose gravel is dangerous. The loose material will likely slip, and tires may dig in, losing momentum and potentially leaving the vehicle stranded or sliding backward. You would likely need to be in 4WD Low (4Lo) for the entire 1000-foot climb to manage speed and maintain torque. The vehicle needs a high power-to-weight ratio, excellent tires (preferably all-terrain), and high ground clearance to prevent bottoming out at the bottom or top of the grade. Because of the length and steepness, keeping consistent momentum is vital. Stopping halfway could make restarting impossible.
While a 4WD can technically climb a 40-degree slope, a 40-degree grade (84%) is very steep for a standard residential driveway, which usually maxes out around 15-20% (approx 8-11 degrees).
It remains a mystery to me how the folks who live in that house could actually drive up and down that driveway every day, without destroying their vehicle or their driveway! Or, for that matter, how a driveway with that angle could even be legal.
We could spend more time exploring how there could be drivers who manage to violate the laws of physics, or a driveway that manages to violate the laws of the county. But let's instead step back and look at all this from a psychophysical perspective.
You probably have already guessed where this third house tale is going, remembering the first two house tales. Once again, we were receiving crystal clear guidance about this house. "STOP! PROCEED NO FURTHER WITH THIS ONE!" was being communicated in the most dramatic and obvious fashion. We literally could not proceed any further. We couldn't reach the house even if we wanted to! My aching leg muscles confirmed that.
And interestingly, as we stood at the foot of the driveway, that psychophysical communication (PROCEED NO FURTHER WITH THIS ONE!) was so direct, so obvious, and so powerful that we instantly received it, understood it, and accepted it — so much so that we simply got in the car and drove away, completely releasing the house, as it receded in the rear view mirror. As we drove away, I called our realtor, told her what had happened, and told her not to bother driving out.
* * *
Now let's explore several issues associated with the Devotional Prayer of Changes that are illustrated by these house hunting stories:
- the importance of including the process of achieving the desired state in the Prayer
- the importance of clear communication with Higher Powers
- the importance of the disposition of trust
Sometimes a DPOC is sufficiently simple that the Prayer only needs to focus on the desired end result. But much more commonly, Prayers have to also take into account the process by which the end result is achieved.[2] For example, in an earlier chapter, I mentioned having prostate cancer, and how "Cure my prostate cancer" was not a sufficient Prayer because it didn't provide any detail about the presumed process of cure.
So in formulating our Prayer for house hunting, I reflected on the elements of the process of house hunting, both the unconventional (the first element below) and the unconventional (the other two elements):
- Making a house that is intended for us (and the next chapter of our lives) available to us on the housing market at the appropriate time (when we had the money to make an offer) — We had a variety of readings tell us that our Higher Helpers were working on preparing a house for us. So then it would just be a matter of us finding that house when it became available, and recognizing it was the one prepared for us. (See the next two elements.)
- Finding all listings for houses in our target area that might match our desired criteria — they could come from a variety of sources: our realtor, online house listings, (from sites like Zillow, Realtor.com, etc.), unexpected, Graceful sources (e.g., a checkout clerk at the supermarket), etc.
- Determining which of these are worth making an offer on — This was the part of the process for which our Prayer called for "crystal clear guidance", and placed the selection of a house in the greater context of how well it would serve our greater life purpose (e.g., which includes serving Adi Da's great Work of liberating all beings).

Whenever the process for accomplishing what is called for in a Prayer involves communication with Higher Powers, I always specify that I want "crystal clear communication".
First, let's review what we've said in earlier chapters in this PART about the Devotional Prayer of Changes and Agency:
- The Power behind the Prayer is the All-Accomplishing Power of the Divine — our being in Divine Communion with Adi Da and immersed in His Divine State is how we access that Power.
- Except during the lifetime of a Divine Incarnation like Adi Da (when the Divine temporarily has the direct Agency of a body-mind), the Divine is merely present, as Adi Da said repeatedly. The Agency involved in the fulfillment of the Prayer is: (a) the devotee(s) engaging the Prayer; (b) other "higher beings" (greater-than-material beings) who have been drawn to help fulfill the Prayer because of the high vibration of the one(s) praying, because they are in Communion with the Divine; or (c) other human beings who we call on to help fulfill the Prayer, or who spontaneously appear to help fulfill the Prayer.
Is it possible to receive communications from Higher Powers and not understand them correctly? You bet! Whenever I add to a Devotional Prayer of Changes a section requesting "crystal clear communication" from Higher Powers, I always smile, thinking of the following parable:
A storm descends on a small town, and the downpour soon turns into a flood. As the waters rise, the local preacher kneels in prayer on the church porch, surrounded by water. By and by, one of the townsfolk comes up the street in a canoe.
"Better get in, Preacher. The waters are rising fast."
"No," says the preacher. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me."
Still the waters rise. Now the preacher is up on the balcony, wringing his hands in supplication, when another guy zips up in a motorboat.
"Come on, Preacher. We need to get you out of here. The levee's gonna break any minute."
Once again, the preacher is unmoved. "I shall remain. The Lord will see me through."
After a while the levee breaks, and the flood rushes over the church until only the steeple remains above water. The preacher is up there, clinging to the cross, when a helicopter descends out of the clouds, and a state trooper calls down to him through a megaphone.
"Grab the ladder, Preacher. This is your last chance."
Once again, the preacher insists the Lord will deliver him.
And, predictably, he drowns.
A pious man, the preacher goes to heaven. After a while he gets an interview with God, and he asks the Almighty, "Lord, I had unwavering faith in you. Why didn't you deliver me from that flood?"
God shakes his head. "What did you want from me? I sent you two boats and a helicopter."
So of course the joke here is that God did give the preacher the help he had been expecting, but the preacher didn't recognize it as God's help and so he didn't make use of it. He had thought "help from God" would take some other, less mundane form (e.g., perhaps an angel sent to carry him to safety).
The greater context here that gives rise to the communications issues is that the Higher Powers are at one level/dimension/vibration and we are at a lower level/dimension/vibration. So direct communication — in the "face to face" manner you and I can communicate — is generally not possible (although it often can be enabled over time by increasing one's vibration to the level of the Higher Power). For this reason, such Higher Powers tend to use various forms of indirect communication, and that's where potential confusion (and therefore, the need for "crystal clear communication") can arise.
Very occasionally, the Higher Powers are able to arrange an indirect communication that almost feels like a direct communication. A couple of chapters from now, I'll tell how I was sitting quietly in my office, when suddenly I was startled by a voice coming from my laptop that said, "Can I help you?" The Higher Powers wanting to communicate with me had temporarily "hijacked" my laptop and triggered one of the stock phrases ("Can I help you?") used by one of the digital assistants on the laptop, to start a conversation with me (which then went on to take more indirect forms of communication).
However, most of the time, the communication from Higher Powers is indirect, and must be correctly interpreted (when the communication is a synchronicity) or correctly deciphered (when the communication is a coded message).
For example, in an earlier chapter, I told the story of an angel communicating with me through a pair of dreams. In the first dream, I was shown a glowing white figure with rounded protrusions at the shoulders, that looked to me like folded wings. That told me the figure was an angel. Then, an hour later, I received the second half of the communication: the number "28", which I recognized as an "angel number" (given that an angel had appeared earlier and was the likely source of this second communication as well). There is a huge body of available knowledge about the meaning of each angel number, so I was able to look up the meaning of the angel number "28". In essence, it was: "when old doors close, new ones open" — which was exactly the guidance I needed to hear in that moment. So in this case, the communicated message, "28", needed to be deciphered, and the first part of the message (the revelation that the communicator was an angel) provided me with the key to deciphering the message. It was exactly like cryptography, where, when you receive a coded message, if you are in possession of the decryption key, you then are able to apply the key and correctly decipher the coded message.
And of course, when human beings solicit guidance from Higher Powers, they often make use of code systems of one kind or another to obtain "readings". Often someone develops some skill in receiving guidance through a particular code system, and then uses that particular system as their primary "language" for communicating with Higher Powers. These code systems include: tarot cards, ouija/spirit boards, automatic writing, pendulums for yes/no questions, dowsing rods, runes, tasseomancy (tea leaf reading), crystal balls, geomancy (reading patterns made on the earth or in the sand), lithomancy (readings using stones or gems), numerology, astrology/horoscopes, I Ching, palmistry, osteomancy (reading bones), aeromancy (interpreting signs from the air, wind, or clouds), pyromancy (interpreting messages from fire), oneiromancy (interpretation of dreams), light codes/light language, angel numbers, and sound frequencies. And there is a craft or art in using these code systems to give an accurate reading. There is a "base level" of intrepretation that is like a cryptographer's key, where they know if they see the letter "E" in the coded message, they should replace it with "N" in the decoded message. For example, if the code system is tarot, and the card that comes up in the reading is an inverted "Fool" card, the standard starting point for the interpretation of that card is "recklessness, being taken advantage of, or lack of consideration". But that's just the starting point. Then based on experience and feeling sensitivity, the reader interprets this card in the context of a person's life in this moment, to arrive at a far more specific interpretation (e.g., the lack of consideration the person showed in how they related to their mother when they and their mother had lunch together the day before the reading).
When the Higher Powers initiate the communication with someone who is not already adept in a particular code system, the indirect communication far more frequently takes the form of a synchronicity — a meaningful "coincidence" — that must be detected and correctly interpreted.
Synchronicities occur spontaneously all the time. The ultimate reason is because the Consciousness in which the universe is arising is prior to time and space, and all events — past, present, and future — are happening simultaneously There — all events are synchronous in Eternity. From the less ultimate viewpoint of the body-mind, synchronicities reflect the fact that the inner world of our own subjectivity and the outer (seemingly) objective world are not actually separate, and synchronicities are constantly occuring in which something in the external world is mirroring something in the internal world (or vice versa). The noticing and correct understanding of such synchronicities is very useful for growth (especially growth beyond the self-contraction, which creates the illusion that inner and outer worlds are separate) and guidance (since, because there is no real separation between inner and outer worlds, it is just as useful to consult the mirror that is the external world around you for guidance as it is to consult your inner thoughts and feelings). See the earlier chapter, The Summer of Synchronicity, for much more on these spontaneous synchronicities.
But when Higher Powers use synchronicity as a means for communicating, they are intentionally creating the synchronicity. From the standpoint of communication, they create an event that is ordinary in some sense, but extraordinary in some other sense. It is aimed at catching the attention of the person the Higher Powers are trying to communicate with. So that aspect of the synchronicity is like when someone calls out "Hey!", or whistles, to get you to turn and look at them.
A large portion of the craft of a shaman is this noticing and correct interpretation of synchronicities. My time around Adi Da has sensitized me to paying attention to the unusual in the usual, in much the same way that shamans do. A bird flies across the shaman's path; the shaman doesn't just ignore that, but considers a possibly deeper revelation also being communicated.
Therefore, it is a world filled with magical conjunctions. That is its significance. That is its meaning. The meaning of a bird and the description of the part of the cosmos to which it relates may also be apparent to you. But the recognition that you are in the Divine World, or the psychic world, is the essential force of such phenomena.
You must awaken to the exhilaration that comes through such recognition, instead of just falling back into the mood of doubt, saying, "Oh, there's a deer there — deer live here all the time," or "Lightning — oh, there's a storm coming up," or "Birds — well, there are always birds flying around." [Laughter.] See? Right away you want to think that you are in the mortal world instead of recognizing that you are in the Divine World. . . From the magical, shamanistic point of view everything is alive. The cosmos is a living process. A little while ago we were talking about accepting the positive as well as the magical significance of creatures other than Man. From the magical point of view, so-called inanimate objects are also conceived as being alive and participating in a living, magical cosmos. And this is certainly true. The more psychically awake you become, the more you are aware of the psycho-physical nature of what you call the objective world. . . Everything altogether is trying to be a revelation for you. It is just that you are not sensitive to it in your ordinary habit. The shaman, you see, has entered into a discipline to make himself sensitive. It is not that he is making the magic happen. The magic is already there. He is just not sensitive to it, not in a position to observe it. Thus, he must engage in a discipline that enables him to participate in what is already happening. Then all of a sudden he sees all kinds of magical things. So I've gotten increasingly better at this shamanic art of noticing and correctly interpreting synchronicities. Even so, I regularly include in my Prayers a call for "crystal clear communication" so that (a) I can't possibly miss detecting the synchronicity; and (b) I can't possibly fail to correctly interpret the synchronicity (the way the preacher failed to recognize God's help when it came).
In an earlier chapter, I told the story of how higher beings were trying to communicate with me, but the way they chose — having my herbal supplement pills end up standing upright on their sides when I took them out of their bottles and placed them on the counter — was so subtle that I couldn't truly be sure it was "non-material beings communicating with me" rather than me imagining it! So I asked them to communicate with me in a much more obvious way, so I could be sure they were real. I was washing the dishes in the sink as I was making this request. Suddenly, I felt the sopping wet sponge being pulled from my hand and watched as it flew out of my hand and landed on the floor of the sink — standing impossibly upright on its edge, even while being sopping wet! (I say "impossibly" because I later tried myself to get the sopping wet sponge to stand upright on its side, and just couldn't do it — it always fell over.) The sponge standing upright on its side was just like the pills standing on their sides — only much more obvious, much more dramatic.
I took delight in the sense of humor these beings had: they had responded to my request by creating another synchronicity — a very humorous one — between the pills standing on their sides and the sponge standing on its side! But from then on, I also included a request that all communications be crystal clear — more like the large sponge standing on its side, than the little pills standing on their sides.
Adi Da once gave a talk about doubt, in which He made the point that doubt was an expression of the self-contraction, rather than doubt of a particular thing or person, with an actual rational basis. When you were in a contracted mood, you could suddenly find yourself doubting things and people that you had complete trust in before, and that life had given you no rational basis to doubt. You simply start doubting them one day because, on that day, your self-contraction is more severe than usual — so you are projecting the mood of doubt onto many people and things.
Just as doubt is an expression of the self-contraction, trust is an expression of the open heart — the uncontracted heart. It is the natural disposition that accompanies devotees who are in Divine Communion with Adi Da. And, like doubt, which is not doubt of something in particular, but a mood — essentially, doubt of everything, a contraction from everything — trust is not trust in something or someone in particular, but rather the open-hearted disposition that allows you to feel a connection to everything and everyone.
That openhearted, uncontracted disposition restores one's connection to the world of people and things we are already familiar with. But that same openness also opens one up to entirely new classes of non-ordinary, often greater-than-material experience. Synchronicities, miracles, communications from higher beings, etc., all start becoming much more common experiences in one’s life when one is living in constant Divine Communion and the associated disposition of trust.
So trust provide provides an opening to all kinds of new experiences. But it, in itself, does not provide a guidebook for how to interpret or respond to, or manage, these new experiences. That is something that one learns discrimination about as one gains more and more non-ordinary experience. Trust simply opens the door to these new experiences, and that in turn allows one to grow in discrimination about those experiences.
So for example, in a later chapter on the Adidam Mission, I'll talk about how new devotees often have rather ungrounded ideas about how the Mission will proceed miraculously, without requiring any more mundane "leg work" of the usual kind (marketing, events, developing relationships, etc.) And that’s because, now being in Adi Da's Spiritual Company, they are experiencing all kinds of new spiritual experiences, and there is a tendency to make all kinds of ungrounded assumptions about what is possible, simply because one is in a completely new realm of experience, is to some degree fascinated by what is happening, and, because one doesn’t yet have much experience oneself, there can be a kind of romanticism about what is possible occuring in some people.
Faith, as it is commonly used in religious circles, generally means belief in something that can’t be demonstrated directly through the usual materialistic means (the senses, etc.). Faith, as Adi Da means it, is not a matter of belief. It rests on an ongoing disposition of trust, which opens your life to actual non-ordinary experiences. And then it is on the basis of those actual experiences (not on the basis of belief) that you develop your faith. So you have faith in God not because you’re believing in an unseen, imagined, "believed" God, but because every day, you are in actual Communion with the Living God.
A basic characteristic you are exhibiting here and talking about and dramatizing day to day you see is disposition of mistrust. You don’t trust. The conditional reality or the Divine Reality. To trust Reality all together is another way of describing the word faith.
You tend to think according to convention that faith is a matter of believing something that you’re call to believe or suggest that you believe. Faith is really a heart disposition of trust in Reality in the context of Reality. You all tend to describe yourselves as people who really don’t trust that much. You are alienated, for feel psychologically mistrustful. Therefore you invent all kinds of games for you own sake to feel better or survive or to conquer or enjoy some sort of victory over what you don’t trust, which is Reality. You don’t trust Reality.
You are self-possessed, mortal. Know all sorts of limitation exist within you and relationship all together, to others and the natural world and business all together. And this registers within you as a feeling of mistrust.
The open heart is inherently characterized by faith. Not believing this or that. It’s not a mind matter or see. A disposition, a feeling of trust. That feeling of trust is the root of sanity. You are relatively insane by comparison. Because there is a fundamental disposition of mistrust. The body is going to die, people can leave you, people can abuse you. You can suffer, you get disease. All mistrust language. I, I, I, I, me, me, me it’s all mistrust signals. As if you’ve observed reality so thoroughly that you knew mistrust was an appropriate disposition.
You just localized in your self-contraction and you make a philosophy out of it. You talk about reality as if you knew Reality. All it is a dramatization of a fundamental psychological disposition of mistrust. And this is what governs your life. It’s another way of describing egoity. A fundamental feeling of alienation and mistrust. Whereas the core of religious life, truly animated, truly lived, found it the heart disposition of trust and that’s another way of describing true feeling then. Self-surrender, self-forgetting. It’s a fundamental feeling of trust and that’s faith.
So all the miraculous phenomena we are describing in this PART — that result from the Devotional Prayer of Changes — come out of this openhearted disposition of trust. And the more constant that trust, the more non-ordinary experiences simply flow into one’s life, and the more one develops faith in such experiences — even learning when to expect them. Such faith is a Spiritual Realization. You develop a very different sense of what is normal, and you then live on its basis.
It is on the basis of such trust and such faith that we can then streamline our life, and allow it to become more of a flow (through constant connection with What Is Greater), than a series of (egoic) problems. So when I described how we found ourselves at the foot of a house we were potentially interested in, and we couldn’t even reach the door of the house because of the impossibly steep driveway, the communication from the universe was crystal clear. But it was also the case that we had had many experiences of this kind before, and many communications from the universe like this before. So we could simply trust the communication as we understood it, and move on with our lives instantly — completely forgetting about this house, without, say, having to add an additional "doubting Thomas" phase where we required ourselves to complement the apparent communication from Higher Powers rejecting the house with an additional "rational", conventional basis for rejecting the house.
Obviously, if the communication from Higher Powers is ambiguous, it certainly could be usefully supplemented with more conventional information. But that's one of the reasons why my Prayer usually calls for crystal clear communication — so we don’t even need such additional sources of information when we need to make decisions.
