The Dual Sensitivity That Moves The Heart (excerpt)– Two Discourses Given by His Divine Presence, Avatar Adi Da Samraj on June 20 and 21, 1995. A 2-CD Set from the Dawn Horse Press.

Excerpt from Disc One (entitled "The Dual Sensitivity At The Origin of The Divine Way of Adidam").

In these two exquisite Discourses, recorded over two consecutive nights on the island of Naitauba in Fiji, Avatar Adi Da Communicated essential Instruction on what He calls the "dual sensitivity" — or the simultaneous sensitivity to the suffering of mortal existence and to the heart’s impulse toward True Happiness.

On the first night, Avatar Adi Da spoke with His devotees about how they distract themselves from mortality by fixating on passing pleasures and self-fulfillment, in their relationships and in ordinary life altogether — and how this effort suppresses the heart’s impulse to True Happiness.

On the second night, Avatar Adi Da discussed how the tradition of Buddhism is characterized by the sensitivity to the mortal condition, and the tradition of Advaitism is characterized by sensitivity to the heart’s impulse to Realize the Happiness beyond conditional existence. Through this in-depth analysis, Avatar Adi Da also clarifies the sympathetic likenesses between these traditions and the Reality-Way of Adidam, and simultaneously clarifies the unique "dual sensitivity" that is fundamental to the Reality-Way of Adidam.

Adi Da Samraj (1939-2008) offers a unique Spiritual Way that radically differs from, and yet perfectly completes the world's Great Spiritual Traditions. James Steinberg provides an introduction to Adi Da's core teaching. Questions to be discussed include: "What do you need to know about yourself and any teacher before you approach for instruction? Is a Spiritual Master necessary for Realization? What makes Avatar Adi Da's Teaching and Realization unique? How does his Spiritual Transmission work to purify body, mind and emotion?" Video footage will offer attendees an experience of Avatar Adi Da's Living Spiritual Presence. In Adi Da’s words: "Your Heart must decide whether to raise a fist and throw a rock, at the ego-crushing natural universe or make a flower grow in the Garden of Indestructable Light." James will also share many remarkable stories of what he witnessed serving in the company of his Spiritual Master for many years.

James Steinberg, international lecturer and religious scholar, has been a devotee of Avatar Adi Da Samraj since 1973 and was personally schooled by Him in the entire Great Tradition of humankind's practical, religious, and Spiritual literature. On the first night of His formal Teaching-Work, on April 25, 1972, Avatar Adi Da gave a presentation of His "radical" argument relative to the activity of separation that is the root of all suffering and dilemma. When that activity is "understood", then the Real Divine Condition can be felt and Enjoyed.

This audio excerpt is from a digitally remastered recording that was released in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this seminal moment in Avatar Adi Da’s Teaching-Work. The CD is available from The Dawn Horse Press.

From a question and answer session with Adi Da on October 28, 1978, in Land Bridge Pavilion at the Mountain Of Attention Sanctuary in Northern California. This is track 2 on the DVD, Surrender of self Is A Koan.

In this excerpt, "Ei ole ketään, kuka antautuisi" ("There Is No One To Surrender"), Adi Da Samraj considers the spiritual transformation of a human being, and states of the body-mind. The real spiritual process is not based on effort or having more (or greater) experiences, even in the mystical dimension. In the true spiritual process, experience, in all its forms (first physical and then mystical), must be transcended through our heart-based practice of God-Communion.

More than 7 hours long, this Tribute DVD was filmed on the occasion of the first Anniversary of Adi Da's Divine Mahasamadhi, when devotees, family, and friends of Adi Da Samraj gathered at Adi Da Samrajashram, Fiji (Adi Da's principal Hermitage), to acknowledge Adi Da as the Divine in human form, to praise His Greatness, and to express their heart-felt gratitude for the Blessings they have received from Him.

An excerpt from Track 5 ("A Basic Education In The Great Tradition") of the CD, Human History Is One Great Tradition, an Avataric Discourse given by Avatar Adi Da August 19, 2004.

In response to a devotee's question about Zen Buddhism and Spiritual Transmission, Avatar Adi Da discusses how the various schools of religious and Spiritual expression fit within one "Great Tradition".

Adi Da Samraj discusses how the various manifestations of Buddhism fit within the Great Tradition of human religion and Spirituality. Avatar Adi Da's Schema of the seven stages of life provides a tool for understanding all traditions based on the actual three-part structure of the human mechanism — the gross (or "outer" physical) dimension, the subtle (or "inner") energetic-emotional-mental) dimension, and the causal (or "root") dimension (which is the presumption of existence as a separate "I").

Avatar Adi Da also describes the qualities of real Spiritual Transmission in various traditions, and closes with a discussion of belief-based myths and how “religious provincialism” is transcended through the guidance offered in His Basket of Tolerance.

An excerpt from Track 3 (entitled "Realization Has No self") of the CD, You Can Get There From Here.

The famous punch line "You can't get there from here" is Avatar Adi Da's starting point for this engaging Discourse. He uses this humorous paradox to perfectly crystallize the condition of all who are caught in the trap of seeking.

"The 'self' can't get to God", Avatar Adi Da clarifies, because the act that generates the sense of "self" is the act of recoil from the Divine. Life is rightly lived not by concentrating on "fixing" this recoil but as the feeling-embrace of the requirements and conditions of existence. And Avatar Adi Da offers the Way "out" of the trap of "self" -and-"other": Locate the supreme attractiveness of His Radiant Divine State, and "self" is dissolved in "Brightness".

An excerpt from Track 1 of the CD, The Asana of Science — A Discourse Given by His Divine Presence, Avatar Adi Da Samraj on October 25, 1980.

In this Discourse, Avatar Adi Da Samraj speaks about the false presumptions that are the basis of the conventional scientific point of view. He also describes our inherent participation in Reality — and He calls us to understand the limitations of present-day and traditional dogmas, by observing and considering our condition altogether.

Ted Progler has been a devotee of Adi Da since 1976. He was a long term practitioner of the "Original Daoist 8 Limbs (or Schools) of Chinese Medicine", wherein Chi Gong is the 2nd School. Ted apprenticed with Lao Ge (aka Charles Belyea), the lineage holder of Original Medical Daoism in the United States and co-founder of the Five Branches University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In this audio clip, Ted tells a leela about a gathering with Adi Da during the “Dancing Down the Light” gathering period. The gathering took place in early March, 2001, in the entry hall of Adi Da’s residence, the Manner Of Flowers, at the Mountain Of Attention.

In the gathering, Ted gave Adi Da a description and demonstration of his Chi Gong practice. Adi Da then talked extensively about Chi Gong, Gong, Chi, Da Chi Gong, and the larger context of energy conductivity with the devotees who were present. Adi Da also talked about the process of making His Image-Art, and how difficult that was for Him physically, requiring a profound conductivity practice.

Michael Shaw and James Alwood (who also were at the same gathering with Adi Da) contribute additional commentary on occasion.

In this first volume of The Universal Tradition Video Series, Avatar Adi Da invites His listeners to participate in a study and consideration of the traditions of humankind (which He describes as collectively forming a single “Great Tradition”). Such consideration, He Says, is an essential foundation for questioning the perceptions and beliefs that have been unconsciously inherited from these traditions. He Reveals the Unity from which all traditions arise—the Truth that is Prior to every “point of view”—and urges everyone to transcend all presumptions of non-unity, which give rise to conflict (both individually and collectively).

You must realize that your heart-disposition . . . cannot be satisfied with anything less than Infinite, Absolute Happiness, or Divine Realization. And on the basis of that dual sensitivity, I Call you to respond to Me.

Vanessa Kenoyer, a devotee of Avatar Adi Da, speaks about His Unique Offering and how it differs from other approaches. In an excerpt from one of His essays, "There Is A Way And Reality Itself Is It" (in The Aletheon), Adi Da states: "What I Bring to here is not mythology. What I Bring to here is not ‘religion’. What I Bring to here is not anything that human beings already ‘know’. What I Bring to here is not a path or a search that is already evident in the history of the Great Tradition of humankind. What I Bring to here has never been offered before, never heard of before, never practiced before."

Adi Da reveals that all experience — positive or negative — is inherently binding (which may come as a surprise to many).
